In the past we showed you Microsoft Co-founder, Paul Allen’s MiG-29 fighter jet plane which he purchased in his personal gamut of high-end toys, and also the availability of the Hawker Hurricane fighter jets for aircraft enthusiasts who could shell out that extra bit cash for this unique habit. However, such an opportunity has indeed crept up again with the Fouga CM 170 Magister fighter jet plane going on sale at the Artcurial Aeronautics Auction, with a price estimate between $76,511- $102,014 (€60,000-€80,000). Apart from refined engineering, this aircraft is known to have a notable history with the French Air Force as well.

Way back in 1949, the French Air Force decided to put out a tender for acquiring fighter planes that would help them train their youngest fighter pilots. In the race of aero plane manufacturers that followed, Air Fouga won it all with the contract for the Magister aircraft in int’s pocket. The first flight then took place in 1952, after which by 1956, the total lot of Fouga CM 170 aircrafts were delivered to the French Air Force. Ever since, it was mostly success that this aircraft had in its elaborate journey. More than 22 different countries from around the world then ordered it for being a part of their fleet, and in the years gone by, more than 12,000 of the best pilots are known to have trained using this fighter plane. In this day, only a handful of these remain and this particular unit is one amongst them. Also other wars fought using this aircraft includes the Congo-France war in 1963, as well the Algiers war in the latter half of the 1960’s.

Covering a flight time of 700 hours, this plane was known for its cutting edge engine of that time. With a travel capacity of close to 1,200 km in a single flight, the engine could muster up the power to take this 3,200 kg plane up to 715 km/hr. One of the factors responsible for this immense capability was the 2 Turbomeca Marbore VI carburetors. Hopefully, the lucky bidder for this plane might get a chance to glide this plane at such high a speed, should it be successful at the auction. Currently we are just wondering, which rich nut is going to bid for it.
