Porsche Design’s P6620 watch with inspirations of dashboards of sports cars
Porsche Designs seems to carrying forward the same legacy of inspired and iconic designs, like the much known car making division of the enterprise. Robust and clear designs with high quality are what we saw in the vehicles, and now it’s the timepieces with the same essence of the original brand. The earlier venture produced the masterpiece P6612 PGC watch, and now expanding the horological spectrum of the brand is the P6620 dashboard watch, which draws its inspiration from the dashboards of the Porsche sports cars.
The main chassis of the watch is the signature black color, which is actually special industrial grade titanium with black PVD coating. This titanium is known to be anti-allergic as well as rust resistant and lightweight. Any exposure to moisture has also been taken of due to this, and also the advanced re-engineering which makes the timepiece water resistant till 100 meters. The dial is 44mm wide, with white enameled numeric indicating the time on the outer ring. To protect this zone, sapphire crystal covering has been used to ensure that the timepiece is largely scratch resistant and also non-reflective to intense light exposure. The other components on the dial include the seconds’ indicator and Tachometer, which indicates speeds of up to 330 km/ph which can only come to use if you travel in one of their superfast cars. The movement of the watch is governed by the mechanical self-winding ETA Valjoux 7753 mechanism, which plays a crucial role in the smooth functioning of the watch, and lends it the 48 hour power reserve. A detailed skeleton view is on display through the back dial.
There are supposedly 20 variants of the watch depending on the material used to make these, which include the gold chassis version with calf leather strapping. The standard titanium version comes with a black rubber strap. The prices for these are estimated to be in the region of $5,642 apiece. This could vary with further customizations.
