Panamera series is a complete Porsche; but many hard-core Porsche-lovers frown at it for its front-mount engine. It’s basically a four-door sedan, compared to performance oriented Porsche super cars. The series sits among the peers like BMW 7 series, Audi A8, and Mercedes S-class. Showcased for the first time in 2009 Shanghai Auto Show, it has many varieties. Porsche Panamera Turbo came out in 2010. Panamera series vehicles are assembled in Leipzig; body comes from Hanover and engine comes from Stuttgart. Panamera Turbo right now comes with a price tag of US$ 138, 650.
Porsche Panamera sports a 4.8L V8 engine with twin-turbo. It comes in top power output of 500 hp at 6000 rpm and top torque of 516 lb-ft. Engine features forged piston, lightweight but sturdy one-piece aluminum cylinder heads. Compression ratio is 10.5:1. Transmission is dual-clutch type with 7 speeds. This offers much faster acceleration. However, 6-speed Panamera Turbo is also available in few markets. Performance-wise Panamera Turbo doesn't take any back seat. With drag coefficient of 0.3, it can reach 100 km/h from 0 in just 3.3 seconds. To reach 160 km/h, it takes 8.2 seconds. Top speed is 300 km/h.
Unlike mid-engine RWD Porsche cars, Panamera Turbo is a comfortable sedan with capability to perform. So, interior is lot better and awe-inspiring. Central console is a bit heavy and bears a signature design. Due to bulgy rear design of the car, you get a lot bigger space inside. Boot offer large storage space of around 430 liters. Cabin size is enough for comfortable hangout for four. As expected in its class, rear passengers have full access to entertainment console, complete with display unit and wireless headset. The controls are touch-sensitive.
Panamera comes with 585W Bose surround system as the standard audio system. For more high-end feeling, you can upgrade to Burmester. Headset is from Harman Kardon. Though, it’s a saloon, interior looks lot sportier. Gear-shift lever sits almost parallel to steering wheel, like any standard super car. Gear-lever and steering wheel are leather covered and adjustable. Interior lighting comes with switch-off delay. It’s not only practical but aesthetic too. Reading lights are provided on all the four seats.
Separate lighting is installed for each of the door-mounted and central storages. Lights are energy-efficient LED type, yet powerful for easy visibility. For Panamera Turbo roofing comes standard in Alcantara. For noise and thermal insulation, one can opt for special glass fittings.
Panamera Turbo is a five-door grand tourer with seating arrangement for four. By appearance, it has certain similarities with 911 from certain angles. However, it might not look that grand like mid-engine 911. Interestingly, it has rear spoiler integrated into rear lid. Wheels are light-weight, sporty and stylish. Vehicle is available in 16 varieties of colors. The rear and body line design of this front-engine car offers a distinct Porsche feeling.
