Princess Beatrice’s crazy wedding hat fetches £81,100
An anonymous buyer has paid £81,100 (about $130,400) for the famous, flamboyant hat worn by Princess Beatrice at the royal wedding of her cousin Prince William and Kate Middleton last month. Princess Beatrice, 22, is the oldest daughter of Prince Andrew and the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II. After she wore this spiraling hat, which resembles a giant pretzel, to the wedding, it was everywhere in the news for its inimitable and crazy design.
The hat even got its own Facebook page called Princess Beatrice’s ridiculous Royal Wedding hat, which has 143,377 likes. Princess Beatrice herself was surprised to see the reactions. She said…
I’ve been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted. It’s a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities. I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have.
The sculptural celebrity headpiece in tea rose silk was designed by Irish milliner Philip Treacy. Proceeds from the sale of the hat will benefit two charities, the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, and British charity Children in Crisis.
