It’s been 14 years since Princess Diana died in a tragic car crash, but the public allure surrounding her life and death has hardly moderated. Though, the Princess of Wales used to be a ravishing head turner at almost all the galas and events, yet it was her stunning wedding day looks (in an iconic ivory silk and taffeta gown) that drew out the breaths from many. So, if you too fell for her wedding gown there is a good news for you! Now, Princess Diana's replica wedding dress and duplicate bridal shoes are set to go under hammer in London, England.
The replica of the gown was created by designers David and Elizabeth Emmanuel for her Madame Tussauds wax work. The gown was especially commissioned at the request of late Princess. Now, the dress up for auction will be sold for charity and is expected to fetch $104 403. This dress was made at the time when her Royal wedding took place in 1981 using the same toile, fabrics and trimmings as the original. Though the gown is exactly similar, however, two minor differences separate it from the original work; the antique Carrickmacross lace on the bodice front is similar but not identical and the train and veil are around a third of the length of the original.
The bridal items are being sold in the auction called 'A Passion for Fashion' at the Kerry Taylor Auctions on November 29th. The bridal shoes made of ivory satin, which were designed and made by Clive Shilton, are expected to fetch more than $80,000. The shoes are adorned with mother of pearl sequins and seed pearl beads. According to the designers, "HRH Princess Diana wore both pairs for the final fitting and gave her approval. The two pairs of shoes were completely identical in every respect. We actually made two left and two right shoes and the choice of which to use was made after the final fitting. The shoes have remained with me ever since. The other pair is in the Althorp collection."
Lately, a rise in lavish spending on classic chic dresses worn by the famous personalities has been witnessed, it has even become a good idea of investment. Last year, Princess Diana's black taffeta dress fetched $276,000 at an auction. Way back in 2007, Princess Diana's blue dress was also up for sale and was expected to draw more than $125,000. These classic dresses are sold like hot cakes in auctions that too for much more than the expected sum. This is not for the first time that Diana’s wedding gown has been duplicated, earlier it was also sold at a charity auction in London for $175,000.
