Born  Ralph Lifshitz has an estimated net worth of $7.1 billion according to Forbes as of 2014. Ralph Lauren is a fashion entrepreneur and that too a highly successful one, but more than anything else he is an iconic brand, whose creations have redefined the fashion scene time and again. His sense of style and sophistication is not only visible in his cloth lining but also spills in his own life, that makes him a fashion aficionado in true sense. His $10 billion fashion empire, which owes its origin to a mere $50,000 loan that he took in 1960s is more than enough to establish his credentials as an astute businessman with the style and elegance of his own. His Polo brand provided the office goers the much needed sense of power and style in 1980s, which no other brand had even given a thought. It is Lauren's innovativeness, among many other traits of the model businessman that has made him the founder, designer and chairman of a $10 billion company. He was the first fashion designer to have his own store, and also the first to sell the whole lifestyle home line that includes furniture, fragrance, fashion for children and even a restaurant in Chicago, RL. He undoubtedly has a keen business sense, and is known for ability to stand by his product at all costs and ability to prevail despite several business failures are what make him a man whose net worth is in excess of $7 billion. He has got a taste for exotic cars and owns a car collection, which includes likes of 1929 Bentley, a 1937 Alfa Romeo, and a 1938 Bugatti.

Quotes

  • Glamour is an attitude-it's the expression of a certain kind of confidence. A glamorous woman is always elegant, but she also possesses an air of mystery and excitement. She's dramatic-almost untouchable.
  • “I don't design clothes, I design dreams.”
  • I try to design into a world that is constantly moving, and moving me.
  • Personal style is about a sense of yourself, a sense of what you believe in and wearing what you like.
  • I have a vision for living. It's about elements of style. It's about all the things that I love, that I believe in.
  • I started with the origins of tradition, but I was not bound by it.
  • I like romance, I like glamour and I like realism. I think that's a great combination.
  • My dreams are my work. I design out of the things that I love.
  • Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It's not about brands. It's about something else that comes from within you.
  • So what I believe in is this timelessness of some of these things. The timelessness of an attitude. The timelessness of an old tweed jacket and suede elbow patches.
  • Style is very personal. It has nothing to do with fashion. Fashion is over quickly. Style is forever.
  • For me, style is about quality, integrity and timelessness. It is free of trends but always feels fresh and new.
  • Every time I design clothes, I'm making a movie.
  • When I create a collection, I approach it with a cinematic point of view-I am not designing clothes, I'm creating a world.
  • I am constantly drawing inspiration from everything I see-the places I travel, the people I know and the movies I see.
  • Don't be today's look. Be a look that's timeless. Don't try to be yesterday's news.
  • I've never wanted to be in fashion. Because if you're in fashion, you're going to be out of fashion.

Ralph Lauren Autos and Cars (21)

1929 Bentley Blower

1929 Bentley Blower

Isn't it amazing how time changes a failure into a roaring success? Just as wine gets better as it gets older, the Blower Bentley, deemed a big failure when it was introduced in 1929, today features in the exotic car collection of Ralph Lauren. The iconic American fashion designer has a selection of the most prestigious sports cars and the Blower Bentley is the oldest in the collection. The name 'Blower' has been attached because this car was attached with a supercharger which probably is the first ever to be used in the history of racing cars.

The vintage car was created by W.O.Bentley and it was built like a tank. The idea was to make a durable car capable of being the champion of the Le Mans. Bentley however did not stop at durability alone. In the quest for greater speed, he built bigger engines and finally topped them with a supercharger. However, it seemed to be the case of an idea whose time had not yet come. One mechanical failure after another dogged the Blower Bentley and it did not serve the purpose for which it was created. However, it has remained the most memorable vintage Bentley ever. And that is why it was acquired by Mr.Lauren from ace car collector, Sir Anthony Bamford in 1988.
