Rare blue diamond ring sold

Diamonds are not only girls’ most cherished jewel but also a passion for the rare diamond collectors. For such diamond collectors, a rare blue diamond ring by Bulgari was auctioned at the Fine Jewellery Sale at Bonhams that fetched a whopping $ 2.9 million which is much more than expected price of $965,000-1,287,000. This stunning blue diamond ring was customized from Bulgari in 1960s by a private European collector who gifted that to his wife. This ring was never sold at any auction before. Bonhams sold this ring to a private collector on phone.

This elegant ring is a perfect example of the amazing craftsmanship of Bulgari, well known for its unique and intricate designs. The ring is studded with two crossover diamonds — rare blue and vivid white. The blue diamond used in the ring has been rated as highest grading for a colored diamond that weighs 3.72 and SI2 clarity. The white diamond weighs 3.93 carats, D color and is certified as VS2 clarity.

Director of Jewellery, Jean Ghika, says:

Not only is this jewel an exquisite example of Bulgari’s craftsmanship but the fancy vivid blue diamond is an incredibly rare gem in its own right. Bonhams is honored to have been chosen to handle the sale of this magnificent ring.

Other than the rare blue diamond, the auction also showcased a rare brooch set with diamonds and gems by the French Imperial jeweller Gustave Baugrand circa 1867 that set a record of selling it at a price of $ 88,000, that is four times more than the expected price.
