Rat Island near New York

At first glance, we found it odd. But the truth is that the once dubious Rat Island near New York City is now up for sale but for a price tag of $265,000, which might be on the lower end considering the location and utility it could have in the future. This 2.5 acre stretch of land, which was once used as a storage space, and as a spot for a quarantine hospital will now be on sale, but doesn’t seem to find too many takers which has resulted in the dip in price, which earlier was over $300K.

If we go by the name itself, the actual land stands completely contrary to its name, as the island doesn't have any rats whatsoever. But due to its dubious location between the Hart Island and City Island, it hasn't attracted the best of investors, who would exploit its resources in the best way possible. The major disadvantage it faces is during the high-tides which could end up submerging the piece of land under water. But with a proper silting arrangement and water management facility, this ignored stretch of land could be converted into the perfect eco friendly get-away from the hectic lifestyle in mainland New York. On the beach area, one can hope for skiing opportunities, fishing, boating, swimming and whole other gamut of water sports, and the rest of the land can be used to build a small resort or villa meant for short term residence as well. Its current owner, Red Brennan however hasn't lost all hope of selling this piece of land. He feels that the right person, who can divert resources, can make optimum advantage of the island, which is actually located rather close to New York. Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, has already shown some interest and only time will tell whether the sale will go ahead or not.
