Ray Rice: Climbing the Forbes Wealthiest Athletes List
Ray Rice is surely the dark horse who has clinched the 33rd position as the highest paid athlete in the world, as per the Forbes Magazine. This 26 year old athlete from New Rochelle who is a Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl running back earned a whopping income of $25.8 million in 2012 out of which $24.2 million was earned through salary remunerations while the remaining was through the various endorsements. Ray, the running back par excellence has exceeded 1,100 rushing yards during all of the four seasons last year and has placed the Baltimore Ravens at a more respectable position since 2011. Ray signed a 40 million dollar five year contract in July last year and also received a $7 million bonus in March this year. Soon after signing the five year contract that would keep him stationed at Baltimore for another five years, Ray went ahead and bought himself a swanky new home in his home town of New Rochelle for a whopping $649,999 that he gifted to his mother. Ray Maurice, whose complete name is Raymell Mourice Rice started off by playing for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). Ray also played college football for Rutgers University, from which he later dropped out. Last year, he was ranked as the Ravens’ second all-time leading rusher after Jamal Lewis and was also ranked second in attempts. To top this all he was also ranked second all-time for the number of rushing touchdowns as well as third in the history of the Ravens for the number of combined touchdowns. He has managed to hit bull’s eye this year with the win at the Super Bowl XLVII this February, which seems to have soared his popularity incredibly. This year, saw Tiger Woods topping the Forbes List as the most richest athlete- which he has been doing for the past 13 years. Sadly he was unable to make it to the number one slot in 2012, having lost out to the boxer Floyd Mayweather. However, this year he reclaimed his position with Roger Federer, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Drew Brees clinching the remaining positions for the top five athletes of 2013.
