Thinking about legendary Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille always brings classy and ‘bling’ luxury timepieces in minds, like the ones we earlier spoke about; the RM65 all-sapphire horological masterpiece, the RM 011 DLC Titanium Mexico to celebrate Mexico’s 200th year of independence and the RM051 Phoenix ladies watch designed in collaboration with renowned actress of Malaysian origin, Michelle Yeoh. Richard Mille, the Principal Partner of Le Mans Classic ever since its first edition in year 2002, has been known for his passionate involvement in the Le Mans Classic, which equals the passion the watchmaker holds for automobile racing. Richard Mille is now again set to be at the 2012 vintage car race Le Mans Classic in its full capacity as competition’s Official Timekeeper and Principal Partner. And, to mark the world’s most renowned vintage car race event, Richard Mille will himself race and the watch brand has unveiled two limited editions; the RM 008 LMC and RM 011 LMC.
Both of these two technically advanced and high performance sports watches has been created as a tribute to this outstanding race, which offers the retrospective of the famous Le Mans 24 Hours. Additionally, both watches has been designed using the same approach used for the racing cars construction, where the bodywork, chassis and engine are imagined as a whole with optimum efficiency as the single objective.
The RM 008 LMC (featured above) is a tourbillon split-seconds chronograph that celebrates the race in purest Le Mans Classic style. Indicated by the tourbillon, the watch boasts minutes and seconds of the chronograph and the torque and function displays reminds the iconic yellow and blue colors of the 24-hour circuit rumble strips. And, the Le Mans Classic logo placed on the dial, at 12 o’clock is another reminder of the historic race. The RM 008 LMC will be released as limited edition of only just two watches.
Whereas, the RM 011 LMC (featured below) Automatic chronograph watch will be made in a limited edition of 150 pieces, with each featuring s skeletonized movement with flyback chronograph and annual calendar. Positioned at 6 o’clock, a 24-hour counter is termed as a technical refinement that truly pays tribute to the historic race and to the 400 vintage cars and drivers competing the race in teams. To only make the barrel-shaped titanium case, it required more than 200 separate machining operations.
