Richard Mille’s watches have always been on the list of ‘bling’ luxury timepieces, but making a complete sapphire crystal edition is something to definitely look out for. After creating some memorable editions like the RM051 Phoenix limited series and the Winter Olympics 2010 watch, the designer brand has indeed taken the meaning of exposure to new levels with this all-sapphire RM56 timepiece. Just like most of his other brilliant works, this one too will be a limited edition of 5 units, each with a price tag of $1.65 million.
From the all mystery that surrounds this rather exposed and complicated watch, it has now been established that the entire casing has been carved out of a large piece of crystal. This means, that each of the 5 editions that will ever come out from the house of Richard Miller, will each have been carved out individual sapphire crystal rocks! Now that surely does make it rather notable, especially if you look at the curvatures on the body, which are difficult to carve from a fabric like sapphire crystal. Though equally scratch resistant, and supposedly reflective, it does manage to draw the attention to its bare skeleton of the movement which lies inside. So much so, the main dial has appeared to be rather convoluted, and makes time assessment a hint tougher than it ought to be.
In a jigsaw of internal parts, lies a thin black outer ring, which is supposedly the tachometer. Beneath that, is the series of white markings pointing out the hours and minutes, as well as bearing the Richard Mille logo on the 12 ‘o’clock slot. On the transparent dial, are several smaller dials including the red power reserve sub dial and the yellow minute counter. The typical geometrically carved minute and hour hands do their bit to point out the hours minutes and seconds. Hopefully, a bright red tip of the thin second hand helps in figuring time a bit easier. On the back, another embossed logo of the Richard Mille brand makes it appearance, along with the marking of the individual number of the timepiece.
So all you Richard Mille fans out there; hurry! This watch will be in the hands of selected 5 buyers within no time!
