Richard Mille teams up with Michelle Yeoh to create limited edition watches for women
Michelle Yeoh, the world renowned actress of Malaysian origin, has partnered with master watch designer Richard Miller to bring out the RM051 Phoenix ladies watch. Impressed by the actress’s knowledge and artistic bent of mind towards ladies accessories, the famed designer decided to create the limited edition timepiece which symbolizes the feminine qualities cherished in the Orient. To bring out Michelle’s contribution to the project, the watch will have only 18 pieces for sale, which happens to be the actress’s favorite number.
With the origins in the Asian continent, it did not come as a surprise to many that the inspiration for the timepiece would have Asian roots. The Phoenix which features on the dial is associated with the Empress of China who is traditionally known to have qualities associated with the phoenix; the head of the bird represents virtue, the back shows justice, the chest goodwill and belly reliability. Thus, the mythical bird has been etched in a rather mystical shape of its own, with the structure in 18K white gold embellished with cut diamonds. On a critical point, one might feel that the design imposes itself so much that the hands indicating the time are almost muted in visibility. But on the other hand, one can’t deny the blinged timepiece’s mystical design. The chassis of the watch is also of the same precious metal and the back of the dial features the individual numbering of the watch, along with the partnership of Michelle Yeoh and Richard Miller, both of which have been engraved. The strapping of the watch is Black Hand stitched leather in fixed animal pattern. The other notable part is the Black Onyx base plate of the watch, which is known to absorb negative energy and bring about balance and inspirational bend of thought.
