The recession sure has left a vast majority of the uber-rich with a decline in their fortunes, but there are a few like the Sultan of Brunei, with a status so rarefied that it’s literally impossible to keep tabs on their ostentatious spending habits. The Sultan, known for his classy taste, has made the statement this time around for getting world’s most expensive haircut for $21,495. The price included a private luxury cabin on a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Brunei for his favorite barber, Ken Modestu, costing £11,000 besides hotel and luxury food. Though a usual snip from Ken will cost one around £30 at the Dorchester hotel in Mayfair, central London, His Majesty was so worried about catching the killer bug that he splashed out extra to fly his hairdresser safely. George Kadi, who works with Modestou at the Dorchester, told a client yesterday: “Ken has been cutting the hair of the Sultan for 16 years.”He goes regularly, sometimes every three or four weeks. The Sultan flies him first-class at a cost of about £9,000. Everything is paid for, hotel, luxury food. It’s a case of ‘just keep signing, that’s all’.”
