The rare Alberto Giacometti sculpture to go for sale
Sotheby’s offers this rare opportunity to explore the perception of art as the most important sculpture by Alberto Giacometti goes for sale in February. Marking the first time in history that a life-time cast has been put up at auction, L’Homme qui marche I,” a life-size work, is among the most arresting and iconic of the artist’s bronzes. The sculpture’s appearance at auction in February will also mark the first time a Giacometti figure of a walking man has come to auction in over 20 years. Originally cast in 1961, it was part of the corporate collection of Dresdner Bank AG, which acquired it around 1980. Before this rare sculpture goes on sale for the estimated value between $19-29 Million, it will be on view at Sotheby’s New York galleries from January 20-22.
