Volvo S80

The Swedish automaker, Volvo Cars, came up with its first major overhaul in 1998 and the S80 was born out of that. It soon became the flaghip model for the fortunes of Volvo Cars for it included the large saloon and estate variants. The model is famed to have scored the maximum ever in crash tests conducted by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). As generations went by, the S80 got better and today, the 2013 S80 arrives as an all-wheel drive with greater energy-efficiency and safety. Built on the P2 platform, the car was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2009. On the whole, it is a plain and simple car built for durability and safety. It outperformed 17 other vehicles in 2012 for the 'best value for money in US' car. The prices for the Volvo S80 begin at $38,950.

The interiors of the car along with the dash impress you with the simple minimalist design and use of high-quality materials. The lighting provided is excellent and stands apart at night. Built for practicality, the seats are ergonomic and the car comes with loads of legroom, headroom and luggage space. Also touted as a 'safe saloon' the S80 has been built with DTSC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control), BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) and the IDIS (Intelligent driver Information System). The CWBS (Collision Warning Brake Support) has intelligence to distinguish between standard braking and panic braking which makes the car safer for sudden and strong braking. These come apart from the standard seatbelts and airbags. The rear seats have their own separate entertainment system apart from the 650W, 12-speaker sound system with USB and iPod connectivity.

The exterior of the car arrives in sleek and stylish lines. The smooth rails along with the sweeping roofline seem to lend an 'unparalleled' beauty! The build is solid and sturdy with a capacity to withstand strong impacts on the sides, rear and front. The star-spoked wheels are not only sophisticated to look at but also provide excellent traction and steering control with their large bases (measuring almost 12 inches). The grille in the front is small and is flanked by really large headlamps. The hood is almost parallel to the ground with a very gentle slope.
