Born Allen Stewart Konigsberg, Woody Allen is an American director, screen writer, actor, author, comedian and playwright best known for his portrayal of the nervous New Yorker in countless movies. Some of his best works till date include movies like Midnight in Paris (2011) and Hannah and her Sisters (1987). He began his career as a comedy writer, way back in the 1950s. Ever since then, humor and comedy have continued to underline a majority of Allen’s works. The celebrated director mastered the art of creating slapstick comedies before maturing to more dramatic material influenced primarily by European art house classics from the 1970s. His film Annie Hall bagged four academy awards in 1977, including one for Best Picture. With a career that spanned almost half a century, Allen, it goes without saying, has not only earned accolades but also a fortune worth millions of dollars. The net worth of his assets comes round to $65 million. Born to Jewelry engraver and waiter Martin Konigsberg, Allen did not have a particularly luxurious or happy childhood. His first job as a writer for Herb Shriner fetched Allen a meager $75. After working as screenwriter for sometime, Allen decided to become a stand-up comedian. Slowly and steadily, Allen rose to fame and wealth through innumerable movies bordering on comedy and humor. While on one hand the movies sent cash registers jingling at box office, they also had the creator smiling all the way on the other. When it comes to judging Allen’s lifestyle, don’t be misled by neurotic characters he often impersonated in movies. Woody Allen, in reality, has a penchant for all things luxurious and spends his money accordingly. His current place, located in an up market New York neighborhood, is over a hundred years old and over looks a small garden. With a French chef to do the cooking and an impeccable housekeeper, Allen’s home screams of grandeur and luxury. Allen’s first marriage was to Harlene Rosen at the age of nineteen. Five years into wedlock, the relationship ended bitterly. Allen was even sued for defamation by Rosen when the former allegedly cracked a joke during an interview. Allen then tied the knot with Louise Lasser for a brief period between 1966 and 1969. Interestingly though, after his second divorce Allen categorically stayed away from marriage till 1997. In the intermediate period, he has been romantically linked to several women like Diane Keaton, Stacey Nelkin and Mia Farrow. After ending his relationship with Farrow, Allen courted Soon Yi-Previn, Mia’s adopted daughter from a previous marriage. On December, 1997, Allen married Previn, thirty-four years his junior. Allen, being Mia’s partner and biological father to one of her sons, created furor by marrying Previn. The liaison was seen as a case of moral digression by many. Allen and Previn, in the meantime, are going pretty strong and have also adopted two daughters.
