World's first planing submarine Q-Sub 2400 comes with its own mothership
Of all the places in the world where exploration and experience, still manage to generate interest, are the vast seas and what lays leagues below in the abyss. Science has crossed a long way in gathering information, but still a lot remains unexplored, generating interest amongst the scientific community, and even the vacationers who can shell out the necessary cash. Hence, to quench their thirst, some have even gone on to splurge on submarine vessels such as those we saw in the top 12 luxury submarines list. Now sharing a spot in this league with a unique concept of its own, the world’s first planning submarine has been revealed along with its own mother vessel to carry it around: The Q-Sub 2400. Designed by Hugh Fulton of New Zealand, this vessel will have the capacity for 2 adults.

With the Kiwi culture of finding problems to complicated issues, Mr. Fulton seems to have struck the right notes by building what is to become the first of a kind vessel in the world, which can be used for both planing as well as underwater tours. Catering to the bar of standards set by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), this vessel is capable of going to depths of up to 400 feet below sea level, and travel at considerable speeds of up to 20 knots. Even by speed boat standards, it is a considerable speed after mentioning that its primary function is different. In terms of the aesthetics and utility, the construction of the submarine has been done keeping in mind the ease with which a formidable sports car can be driven. Featuring a 2-passenger capacity, there are circular transparent acrylic windows through which the underwater eco-system can be seen, and observed for scientific purposes. Also the body design has been kept nice and sleek, without having any shortage of space inside. This helps preventing any form of claustrophobia when traveling below the waters. Since the weight is under check, it makes for easy movement to and from the surface area.

The story of the creations just doesn’t end here. Other advanced features include battery rechargeable battery capabilities, visibility of sea floor and intimation if it is less than ½ a meter below, along with emergency capability to survive for 72 hours below the water. However, all of this is still under the construction stage and further research is in progress to fine tune the final product. So, it will be some more time before we see it in person.

We had earlier mentioned that the Q-sub 2400 will also have its own mothership, which also at an initial concept stage (pictured below). With the brainchild of Warwick Yacht design involved along, it will sport a futuristic design and would measure around the 18-meter range in body length. The luxury mothership water craft will be used to store, refuel and transport the Q-Sub, besides designed for visiting offshore islands. Features and detailed specifications along with the price tag are still under wraps. But the looks of it tell us, that it’s going to be an ecological vessel too.

For those who own super yachts, owning a submarine is the next step. Though the billionaires who own submersibles intend keep it a secret, quite contrary to their flashy lifestyle, but take a look at the billionaires who own luxury submarines at Richfiles.
