Would you spend $90,000 on an apartment covered in crochet?

olek crochet covered apartment

This is what we can call a hobby turned obsession. Polish-born, Brooklyn artist Agata Oleksiak (aka Olek), who watches movies and makes art at the same time, lives with an aim to crochet everything that enters her space. From day-to-day things to bikes to cars, she has knitted almost everything. She is so much addicted to crocheting the things that she has covered her entire 15 x 14 feet studio apartment in crochet.

Everything inside the apartment, including picture frames, the television, shelves and toilet seat, has been adorned in the bright covered yarn creations. It took Olek years to crochet her apartment and she mostly used Red Heart Yarn. Originally stitched in Olek’s own Park Slope apartment, the crocheted mini-universe will be exhibited at the Christopher Henry Gallery in Nolita up until May 28.

Here is what Olek says about her artistic obsession…

A loop after a loop. Hour after hour my madness becomes crochet. Life and art are inseparable. The movies I watch while crocheting influence my work, and my work dictates the films I select. I crochet everything that enters my space.

Impressed? If you are, you can actually buy this crocheted apartment. The price tag reads a cool $90,000. Even I am impressed, but the idea of spending such a huge amount on loops of yarn doesn’t seem so good.
